Blog 6: Gwen Harwood

For this week’s blog, I will be doing a short creative piece inspired by Gwen Harwood and her renowned poem “Mother Who Gave Me Life”. I hope you enjoy!

As a daughter grows to a mother

There are many things she can see

She sees all that her mother was

As loving, as nurturing, as clever

She wishes to be

But it is not just her mother

that has taught her these things

it is the evolution of mothers

and all the tales

history and literature brings

But everyone has their time

Like Harwood, she knows love is not all

This new mother grieves for her own

and for the sake of her new daughter

She tries not to fall.
